It's possible that you have the bike in a gear combination that it should not be in. It's a little hard to explain here but I'll give it a try. There are certain combinations of gears that cause the chain to be a bad angle to the front and rear gears. If you are in a front such that the chain on the front gear is closest to the bike frame center and the chain on the back gear is furthest from the bike frame center, it means that the chain is at a too severe angle to the gears and that the chain may slip. The reverse is also true. If the chain on the front is on the gear furthest from the bike frame center and on the gear in the back closest to the bike frame center, you will have the same problem. In summation, this means that not all gears in the rear should be used with all gears in the front. This isn't a great explanation but you should be able to find some articles about appropriate gearing combinations on the internet. It is also possbile that your derailleurs are out of adjustment or that your chain has a stiff link as well as several other problems. I'd focus on the gearing and see if that solves the problem. Good luck!
I'm cleaning my MTB chain. I removed it from the
a bicycle chain cannot be removed from the bike without breaking the chain using a special chain break tool or if the chain has a special link called a quick link that snaps apart. However, to clean a chain it does not need to be removed from the bike. Some degreaser, a stiff brush and some water as all that needed to clean the chain, then follow the cleaning with some good bicycle chain lube.
My chain has a kink in it how do iremove it?
hi,
spray the whole chain down with wd-40.
let it sit a few minutes..
use two sets of pliers right next to each other near the kink to start wiggling it back and forth to get it to subit. I use regular 10w40 motor on my chain and never ever have problems, just a suggestion..

Twisted Chain
Take the back wheel off and straighten the chain. Be careful to keep it straight while putting it back on. Try and oil the chain first.
Bicycle Chain Problem
Your chain problem is probably because your chain is not tightened and maintained.
You should clean your chain after a ride, and oil it (very little oil).
Good luck

Check the maintenance schedule in your owners manual or on www.ex-500.com. The 500 requires a valve adjustment and carb sync every 8000miles. Spark plugs should be checked and replaced, if fouled at the same time as the valve adjustment.

You shouldn't have to disassemble the shift levers. Remove the cable from the cable clamp at the business end. Push the cable a bit toward the shift lever. The little barrel end of the cable at the lever end should raise itself out of the lever, then you can just pull the whole cable out. Make sure your replacement cable and cable sleeve are about the same length as the originals. The new cable can be longer because you can cut it off later, but the cable sleeve should be pretty close to the same length as the original - maybe 1/4 inch longer would be ok.
