Badger 100-1 disposal is not working, no sound, and disposal is warm to touch and smells
Make sure the disposal isn't jammed by looking down the drain with a flashlight. Almost any small, hard item like a cherry pit or paper clip can jam it up. If nothing is obviously jamming it, take a long flat-head screw driver and try to move the impeller (the grinding unit inside the drain). You may have to gently tap the screw driver with a hammer to free up the impeller. You'll see a stainless steel impeller arm in there, make sure it moves freely. If the inside of the unit looks all rusty and corroded it may need replacing. There's a red reset button on the bottom of the unit under the sink. If it's popped out push it back in to reset the overloads in the motor. If all this fails you can replace it yourself on a Saturday afternoon with a minimum of tools and a set of instructions from the new unit. They're available at any home improvement store in a variety of horse powers.
