before replacing the motor, check the switch itself,, it could be bad or shorting ,, also,, if it seems intermittent it could simply be the motor brushes are worn, both of those are much cheaper than the motor, as with many fixes, sometimes its cheaper to replace the whole thing that repair it,, especially with vacuums

Hi Linda: It sounds as if you may have sucked up something that has not passed through the hose to the dust collection canister. This would explain the overloading of the machine and the shutdown. As a next step you will need to check to make sure that the nozzle, hose and the connection to the dust collector is not plugged or partially plugged. Clear any obstruction and this should correct the problem. If this does not resolve your issue, please reply with additional information. What type of material were you vacuuming? Was there any physical damage to the filter?Thank you for using FixYa!

Hi There and Welcome to Fixya.

As a technician, if a certain electronic appliance had a 'burning'(or anything close) smell then there's a great chance that a minor short circuit occurred within the internal electronic boards. With this, I am highly recommending for this to be serviced unless you are a certified/trained technician that can perform the necessary repairs. And to answer your question, there are no "rest" or "hibernate" button on this machine.

For you to double check if you're missing something, here's the link for the user's manual as well as repair options :

Model E130J how do I shut off the led service life on my Aerus CentraLux central vacuum? I have replaced the motor and light stays on. The blue box on the circuit board had the switch ON and MEDI.
