What attaches the handle? Does a screw go through the lid and into the handle? I would remove the old handle and make a new one from wood, or possibly a know such as is used for a drawer would work.

Contact manfacturer by phone or computer they are usually very helpful remember to include make and model number

Inserts, IF you can find them, usually cost as much or more than replacing the entire cooker. As far as I have been able to find, Rival does not sell replacement inserts.

The part is currently out of Stock form Rival, and no third party has the lid in stock.

Try calling Rival first.
If they cannot make the part available, try MarBeck.com . They may not have the original in stock, but they may provide a compatible replacement.

If they do not have the original lid in stock, ask MarBeck for a glass lid of same size and specs that can fit your slow cooker.

If still no luck, call back Rival and complain that you cannot use the slow cooker. They may offer you a discounted replacement cooker.

Check to make sure the cord has voltage at the on the output...remember it is a varistor (variable resistor) so the voltage should go lower as you change the temperature on the temp select, and vice versa.

If you have volts on the connector, the problem is with the receptacle on the unit itself.

Check for manufacturers warranty; defects due to craftsmanship are longer than the store warranty.

or why not pick up one from a thrift store or craig's list and use the handles? probably a lot cheaper. Many brands like GE, toastess, etc are identical

I called on mine (same purchase place and time but they did not ask). they are sending me a new lid for free. mine broke months ago but i have just used it very carefully prying open the lid.

it does sound like there is a problem but at least they are providing a free replacemnet.

Call Jarden, who owns crock pot. i called on my smart pot handle and they are sending me out a new lid - free. www.crockpot.com someone posted the phone number on another question reponse on the same topic. have your model number whne you call. that was all they asked for.

You do not put water in the base. Just put your ingredients in the crock part and whatever liquid the receipe calls for. you can probably find the instruction manual on crockpot.com or call and ask them to send one.
