My first impression is a ground issue. You might try disconnecting the deck height switch and see if/how the symptoms change.


The wiring diagram shows the electric clutch is energized when the ignition switch is in either run or start with PTO switch on. Testing can be done without the engine running. Check the common ground point.

.010 has always been the air gap

Timing of the magneto to the coil is critical. so is the gap between the magnet and the coil. Double check both, the gap can be set to .01 to .019 depending on the make and model of the motor and you did not post that.

Appears its near the starter solenoid... nice that Snapper didn't include location in the operators manual.

Air filter is soaked, water in gas, igniter coil is cracked and will not work until it dries out, igniter coil is bad and needs to be replaced or it is a coincidence and the spark plug is fouled or bad.

Kind of depends on how handy you are. First open the air filter and check to see that it is dry. Check to see if the spark plug wire is dry. A little starting fluid is a must in my garage. Spray for a couple of seconds in the air cleaner. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask more. Sean
