New battery and alternator on 1995 3/4 ton fleet truck won't hold charge for more than a few days
Mark, have you checked your battery cells for water,if you can, open each cell on top of battery, look inside and water level should be up to bottom of opening just above the plates inside..if water is low in each cell then you have to fill each cell that is down ,DO NOT FILL TO TOP OF CELL OPENING. EACH CELL should take a little water only,, also have you had your alternator tested, new ones can be faulty, have you checked your ground wire from the battery, sometimes the connection is corroded or paint underneath the bolt, rmove gound and sand end with emery cloth or sandpaper, then sand area where connection is and sand with sandpaper, connect back to place you removed it from, make sure bolt is tight, after you do this, start truck, check the votage of battery,by using a volt meter, put one probe on red terminal and one on black terminal, see what the meter is reading, should be reading about 14-15 volts.. if not then your battery may be defective,.. try another battery that you know is good.. also is you drive belt on alternator and pulleys tight, try and tighten it by loosing the 2 bolts on alternator, one bolt is long near top and the other bolt is short, just loosen them enough to move alternator up to tighten ,when belt is tight tighten the bolts up. check tightness on belt by pushing down on belt, if you push down and move more than 1/2 inch, then you have to tighten again..
