That is a reset button. Do not shim it. It could cause a fire there's probably something wrong with the equipment

I have contacted Waring today and they state that the power cord is no longer available or manufactured. What a way to make you buy a new deep fryer. I love my DF200 and there is nothing wrong with it., just cant find a cord myself.

Home Depot & Lowes both carry replacement cords in varrying lengths for all appliances for less than $15, be sure to take the old one with you so they will be able to match it to the new one.

Check if this unit has a thermal fuse.It should.

Test the fuse using a multimeter. With multimeter set on impedance the fuse must return continuity.

Test wiring harness for continuity (with power off) to find out where the wiring is broken.
Reading Ohms is safer than reading volts.

Try to understand if there is power at igniter, valve regulator, and thermal cutoff.

Most likely the problem is a broken wiring to controls, and the switch will not turn on igniter.

The DF200 model has been discontinued by Waring, their parts department does not sell the power cord anymore. Unfortunately the DF250 model has a different power cord and does not work in the older model.

Question edited for clarity and toss in some CAPS. Hasn't it been used for a while? Sometimes they will stick because of oil build up, which goes sticky and over time rancid. Put the waffle make on and heat it up. It should release. I was hoping it would be belt drive and the belt had snapped, but it is gear driven. The problem is that the main motor gear wheel is discontinued. The only way to check what is wrong is to open it up. There are companies that sell nylon gear cogs. It is a good machine and well worth fixing.
