Gateway M-1626 Notebook Questions & Answers
My wife's M1626 gateway works
Hummm... SO strange! both functions (surfing/typing) use the same keyboard... which rules out a intermittent/crushed keyboard ribbon cable.
The problems occur while typing WHAT? A word document? Perhaps her WORD program is at fault and needs a reinstall?
You didn't specify WHAT she was doing/typing so you make it extremely difficult to help you both!

Gateway m1626 overheats need solution
Sure try the guys at http://www.generalsystemsconsulting.com They will repair it and ship it back Fedex or UPS and their prices beat most quotes you will find even including the shipping. But your problem is either the Fan is not working to keep the laptop cool. Do you hear the fan running?Or your problem is that your CPU and Heat Sink is overheating because the Thermal Paste has dried up or is not thick enough to keep them cool. Either of the two problems above will require your laptop to be disassembled. If you laptop is very old then your problem might be that the vents are clogged up and causing it to overheat. If that's the case a less than $5.00 can of Compressed Air from any computer shop can be used to clear the vent and hopefully it will keep cool.
Laptop makes a pinging sound when opening and then crashes
your computer cannot boot from the hard drive or cannot read the drive.the drive may be corrupted so zero-fill it.and if you think that your hard disk is in healthy condition then you can try one by changing your battery and observing the screen by pluging the laptop to the wall socket and also unplugging.do you see any difference? if yes then problem with the battery(if seen that the laptop reboots after being plugged).to the best of my knowlege, the hard drive is corrupted.
I cant access my webcam
Sometimes, your webcams's shortcut is not created on desktop, so you have too look for it in 'start' menu in 'all programs', or you can find it after getting into 'My Computer'.'
My computer crashed a while

When I try to turn the computer on, battery light
Hi nancy jac719,
If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.
Here are some steps that you can try.
1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left from the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)
2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor. You may need to press the Fn + F10 or F6, depends on the key designed on the keyboard to toggle between displays.
3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.
4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the issue not to POST.
5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.
Hope this helps.
I need vga and webcam

Hello, my name is Sidney
I think that the DVD Drive may be stopping the computer from booting. this happens when the drive fails, either through jamming or a worn out spindle. Firstly locate the retaining screw for the Drive which as I recall, is under the laptop and marked with a disc icon like an O with a spot in the middle.
Try booting the laptop again, see if you get any luck and note if there is still a noise. If this does boot ok replace the DVD drive.
If it does not boot, I think that there may be damage to the motherboard

if you have vista installed when you click "start"button there is a search engine located just to the top of the button.if you click there and enter "webcam" then vista shows the options automatically. however if you are using xp, then go to search and give webcam.exe in the search address bar. you will be able to find the options to access it
I'm upgrading my RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb 1333Mhz DDR3 kinsgton to my DH67CL mobo with an intel i3 2120 2nd generation processor.. When I started my desktop, there was no display, so i took one stick o
you are confused ( the rules are not singular ever)
first of all these are the rules on DDR3 (any mem) upgrades
- gateway manual covers this but no GW model told.
- bios shows its ok or upgraded , bios now works.
- chipset allows this DDR3 and that same density
- not violating slot limits or both at once limits
- matching sku on DDR3, says intel clearly.
- no PC does 32BG with that chip set,. (none sold so no way on the earth to test it ever in that YEAR NEW) but is a logical limit only in the i3 MMC. per its datasheet intel.com
- try the bios upgrade,
- NO OS told at all, nor how you know 8GB fails does bios see it>????? if the OS is 32bit max is 4GB (3.2GB with video stealing VRAM from Dram per chipset H67.
- is this a real intel mobo?> as some are, then if yes ask intel too for help.
- intel bios is BLH6710H.86A date. Version 0162 or later 2018
- Most old mobo do not like super new DDR3 it high density DRAM on the sticks, some do if bios upgrade.
- Intel is mute now on this Discontinuted product. theirs"
Gateway M what does this mean,????
M is notebook not desktop so you posted to gateway forum for any intel actual mobo
DH67CL
if this mobo came from intel new, then only ask them or post to intel forum not gateway
but gee I do know some old makers of PC simply stuffed in this mobo into there cases and sold it by there name.
but no GW model told AT ALL.
been here yet

RTM from maker, do as they say.
and over 4GB needs 64bit OS.
the 32GB limit includes PCI memory too,
see page 40 , and know that your unstated OS must know how to use the upper memory bank of the MMC controller
4 slots of DDR3 are there. (4x8=32) make sure BIOS likes it first NOT WINDOWs (if is>?) bios is first and bios tells windoz how much DDR3 is there, and works with that.
32BG is possible if all things are correct
BIOS if it scans the SPD chip in the DDR3 each , and BIOS is does not know what it sees , it will truncate DDR. max.
