Moved into a flat with some faulty heaters. One has a burnt/melted spade terminal on the end of the brown mains feed wire at the first connection inside the heater. If I replace this and the wire, is there anything else I should check before turning it back on? Is it indicative of deeper problems?

I have a coleman 7330-3351 t-stat, has been working fine, this morning the gas heat will not turn off, unless I turn t-stat to the off position and I checked the ac and it will not come on also, I can turn heat on and off with the off switch , the temp lever is set to the lowest position.
