1983 Yamaha XS 400 L Maxim "change oil" Questions

1983 Yamaha 400 Maxim oil change with filter. How much oil? I think it is marked on the engine casing right where you pour the oil in. I believe on that bike it is 3 quarts with oil and filter change

What type of Oil does the yamaha xs 400 use? Either 10W40 or 20W50. I used a good synthetic motorcylce oil but if you want to use regular oil thats ok as long as you change it at its normal time.
