Toshiba SD-4100 DVD Player "av1 av2 working" Questions

I'm playing a DVD or a VHS tape. What should I check to make this work? Check the scart lead is fully in on machine and tv,also make sure the channel you are watching on is either AV1/AV2 AND NOT AV2S
