Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 (SG1735) Lens Converter "problems solve" Questions

I have a Sigma EX 17-35mm HSM. Compatibility? I have the above lens which is not a DG lens. The autofocus doesn't seem to work with my Canon 400D. Is the lens not compatible with this digital camera? ...
