fluid (check for your car) in until it starts running out. Officially, tranny fluid should be 43 deg C as shown with VAGcom diagnostic. But I have good results with just room temp car (just not more).

just a fluid problem or something more? check oil level in gearbox, if auto check fault memory, will go into emergency mode and stay in 3rd if there is a fault. gear position display will all light up

Check the clutch master cylinder resevoir and be sure it is full on fluid...but if it's empty the system will have to be bled out and should check for leaks...Does it go into gear with the engine off?

check the fluid level first. If fluid is full you have a mechanical problem and will need to be taken to a reputable trans shop or if you can find a used trans with a warranty it may save you a little

...transmission fluid is first thought .ot the front clutch but i would suspect low on oil ,start engine put in reverse then check fluid level ,with handbrake on and brick behind drive wheel of course
