Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player "dvd player starts locks" Questions

dvd player in the trash. My first player was a JVC XV-5300BK, i had it for a few years then when ever i played a movie it would lock up about an hour into the movie. So I replaced it with a new JVC XV

...it can be played on any regular DVD player. However, once locked you cannot re-open the DVD. Hope this helps. Otherwise check in the user manual under "recording a DVD" - it is mentioned also
