Gateway FPD1975W 19 inch LCD Monitor drivers
Monitor should display 1280 by 1024, but only 640 by 480 and 16 colors avlbl. in control panel/display/settings. i've tried everything imaginable-virus removal,reinstalling drivers, (there is no driver available for my monitor's model) . Any ideas out there? And i also reinstalled windows98se.out of options, help more...

Certainly sounds like a driver issue, check your cards/onboard graphics make; and download latest drivers.
Are you able to pinch a monitor off a friend to try and pin it to a monitor or graphics problem?

try starting up in safe mode(pressing F8 on boot up)and hopefully you can uninstall your old driver through ADD/Remove programmes.
Try booting again and install drivers from instalation CD.
