Sony VAIO FRV28 Notebook "ac dc battery supply icon" Questions

ac /dc power! My sony vaio pc will not work with the ac/dc power supply plugged in if the battery is in the pc. When the power supply is pluged in my cd rom won't work and the pc sometimes shuts down.
