and dvd's with no problem,but will not function as a burner.I am using Nero 7 which came with it,and even tried to upgrade the firmware from lite-0n.When i tried to upgrade it ,it says it is for a different burner! Very confused.Hope you can help! more...
Upgrading firmware can be very simple or completely wreck a drive. If the process is interrupted whilst upgrading it can become corrupt and goodbye drive.

It could be your drive or media. Try cleaning the lens with a comercial DVD lens cleaner or sometimes some compressed more...
these same files on another cd player. I put a laser lens cleaner in the driver and nothing happened. I tried reinstalling the firmware and this did not fix the problem. I only know this is a SOHC-5236V Combo. I do not have more information for the name, more...

In my Computer I am able to see the DVD drive icon. but the drive feels dead.
Upgraded the firmware to 1.0d.
I have just now Reinstalled Windows Xp Home but to no avail.
