problem also happens when you try to use vide tapes from other countires inside american vcr players and vice versa. The problem is a format incompatibility. first i assume you are trying to watch the unit through AV. If this is the case, turn on unit, press "Display Format" on the front of the unit, keep press it till you have "YPBPR" displaying, press select on front panel, next press "Display Format" again more...
