change the channel to a specific one with the given remote with the TV. Lastly, captions don't turn on when activated. Basically, all the menus wants to stay on the when used, I cannot see the channel
TV as the main volume control try to lower the volume from the cable box, maybe to mid volume. If you are using the Cable box as the main volume try doing the opposite from the above.. Hope this helps
