try checking all fuses they should be easy to find once you take the outer cover off replace any blown ones they look similar to a lightbolb for more...

Nothing melted, just became discolored. however, the unit stopped working altogether. no lights, no power, no nothing. are there any fuses or a reset perhaps?

For continued protection against flames, a ceramic fuse is specified. You should be able to get white or gray ceramic fuses from local appliance parts stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, Wal-Mart, etc. Or I can send you one for $5.00 postpaid. We're happy to more...
