I have a Toshiba TV with a built in DVD player. We believe a dvd was put in incorrectly or jammed in. When we try to eject the dvd, it makes a humming noise and then the dvd replays. What should we do?!
Best thing is see if you can find an emergency release for the DVD player in the TV.
Normally they have a small pin-hole near the DVD slot . If you stick a paperclip into it you should be able to force the motor round to eject the disk manually.
Note to eject with the pin hole it's not like a release catch or anything you have to be quite forceful to get it to release the DVD, you have to push firmly on the cogs with a paperclip to get it to turn (where possible use something blunt to go in the hole that's not going to just go into the plastic - pins tend to just bury themselves in the plastic). When you get it right you'll hear like a motor whirring, like if you try and force a food processor to turn round by hand.
This only works though if the DVD is a tray DVD player, as for slot loading ones I have no idea how you would get a DVD out of them, apart from taking them to pieces, but as it has a TV connected to it I would highly recommend you get a technician in to do this as there can be a lot of high voltages (the capacitors can easily store up to 1,000v even when the TV is unplugged).
oh by the way if the DVD is playing the DVD hasn't been put in incorrectly, it sounds like the motor on the DVD mechanism has gone. When you get the DVD out I highly recommend not putting any more DVD's in there.
