More than likely, you have an issue with the clutch mechanism on the unit. It's not an uncommon problem with Dysons. If you, or someone you know has some basic mechanical skills, you may want to check out http://www.dysonmedic.com/ for repair guides. I've used this free advice on my DC-07 and fixed a problem with a slipping belt. Dyson repair centers are very hard to find so these manuals are invaluable. Good luck.
