NIKON D90 OR CANON 50D

If you're looking for the better camera, the Canon 50D wins.
Compared to the D90, it has:
More Pixels
Faster Continuous FPS
Faster Shutter Speed
Higher ISO Capability

But if video capture is important, then the Nikon D90 wins since it can do that while the Canon 50D doesn't.
the Nikon D90 is also cheaper by $200-300.
