I would highly recommend the XT to anyone. It is a very serious piece of equipment capable of covering a wide range of photography tasks from the very amateur to the most professional. For the price that one of these can be picked up for, it is hardly worth purchasing anything else in order to gain a few convenience features. Sure, there are better resolution SLR's out there, but, twice the price doesn't begin to get into a noticeable visual difference over what this camera can put out with the right settings. Plus, most of the existing film EF lenses will work with this camera, which makes it very versatile. I just picked up an old Canon Rebel 35mm SLR on craigslist for 50 bucks with a 300mm lens, and a couple of filtered lenses were included and each of them worked on my XT. Considering I was fortunate enough to find my XT for $299 hidden deep in the clearance cabinet at Walmart, I have been on a major crime spree! This kit is highly recommended by me.
