What console should I buy?

At the risk of sounding like a fair nuff nuff, I've not owned a console since the PS1 with Madden 2000. I've gotten thinking about picking up a new system cause of all the noise around GTA IV. Madden used to be my main motivation to play any games, but it really hasn't improved all that much in the releases I've potted about with lately. A bit of background ... got lots of computers. Always have at least 1 hooked up to the television for playing dvd's / divx etc, would be nice if the console did this for me. TV is a really sucky piece of 10'ish year old TEAC CRT. Linksys WRT54GL and I don't want to run any cables from gaming consoles to the router. I've got to admit that I'm a picky little sod when it comes to tech... if it's cheaply made, unreliable, unpolished it'll drive me spare (like the really unfinished look of the 360 controllers). I'm also stuck in something of a moral dilemma. It hurts to support Microsoft, but after Sony's Oz laptop record and their buyout of the HD format war I feel like a Wii is the only thing I should be willing to spend any money on. The current thoughts floating through my head are in support of assisting Microsoft with their move away from the operating system market :-) So is it a PS3? XBOX 360? Wii? Which is better made? Which is more polished? Better / more titles? Any personal experiences you could share? Thanks.
