I personally have had nothing but problems with my GE refrigerator and will not be buying another GE product. If you Google the GE fridges you will see lots of problems including 2 class action lawsuits in the last few years. We have had problems with the freezer baskets not staying in track, frost building around the ice maker which blocks ice to the external dispenser, constant problems with the water dispenser freezing, and lately it's been freezing items in the crisper drawer and sometimes the top and middle racks, it's intermittent. These items are freezing even with settings are turned down to 1 or 2. Sadly this unit is not even 6 years old. We have had 3 services calls and each time they have not been able to fix it.
We have decided on going with KitchenAid or Samsung. Sorry, don't know much about the Electrolux as I don't think they have a French Door model, which is what we are interested in. The Samsung French Door model is currently on the list of recommended fridges on Consumer Reports.
We will be making our purchase decision this week (1/27/08).
If you Google the Samsungs I have found hardly any issues. Plus, every other Samsung product I have purchased I have been happy with (TV, cell phone, computer monitor). Not that these are necessarily related, but the last GE house phone we bought was also a piece of junk.
We are leaning towards the Samsung because we like the dual cooling units (1 for fridge, 1 for freezer), the easy adjust shelves (one shelf flips up for tall wine bottles or 2 liters) another "splits" in half and canbe pushed back, the flat front water/ice dispenser (it's flush with the front as opposed to sticking out an inch or two like most others) and the CoolSelect Pantry which is an adjustable temp "crisper" type drawer that covers the entire width of the fridge).
Finally, if you look at each manufactures website, the Samsung has a lot more detail than GE.
