We bought our washer in January 2006. By June the first gasket was out. Took over 10 days to get someone to look at. Of course the seller said they had nothing to do with it and couldn't do anything to help. (Nebraska Furniture Mart and we've never been back!) Local company came out "LOOKED" at it and said it'd be another 7 - 10 days for the part. So after contacting GE and about 15-20 days later, I finally got it fixed - under warranty but they said it shouldn't be warranty because it's like a belt on your vehicle - those things aren't covered. Well about 3 months later - same thing happened! This time I called and ordered the part first and then told them to come fix it. I called and wrote to GE about this. They agreed to pay 1/2 of the part but I had to pay for 1/2, shipping and labor. It happened for the third time in July 2008. We moved the darn thing to our garage and bought a Whirlpool topload and haven't had any problems. I'm still going to try to fix this one which is how I found these comments. I might try to autoparts store as recommended. The gasket alone is $158 plus tax, trip fee, mileage, and the labor! They estimated $386 to fix this last year. It's still in my garage.
