Matrix shares engines and transmissions with Corolla and Toyotas Celica sporty coupe, but offers both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Pontiacs new Vibe shares the Matrix design and powertrains, but is built in California with different styling. Matrix offers Standard, XR, and XRS models, all with a separate-opening window in a swing-up tailgate. All have a 1.8-liter 4-cyl engine. AWD is optional on Standard and XR models, which have 130 hp with front-drive, 123 with AWD. The XRS is front drive only and has 180 hp. Standard and XR come with a 5-speed manual transmission, XRS with a 6-speed manual. Automatic transmission is optional with front drive and included with AWD. AWD versions retain the front-drive ride height and are not intended for off-road use. ABS is standard on XRS and AWD models, optional on other versions. The XRS also has rear disc brakes. Front side airbags are optional f
