The smaller of Saturns two cars drops its station wagon body style for 2002. Returning are sedans in SL, SL1, and SL2 models, plus 3-dr coupes in SC1 and SC2 trim. The coupes have a small, rear-hinged, left-side back door. All models have dent- and rust-resistant polymer front and side body panels. SL and 1 models have 100 hp, the 2 versions have 124. Manual transmission is standard; automatic is optional on all but the SL. Side curtain airbags are optional on all. The optional ABS includes traction control. A tilt steering wheel is now standard on all models. The S-Series is to be replaced for 2003 by a redesigned model line called Ion.
