1999 Mercury Cougar Recommendations

The European designed and engineered Cougar sports coupe scouts a new path for Mercury; offering a unique vehicle to appeal to young and younger-thinking customers who want to be trendy and stand out in crowds. As with the Contour/Mystique on which its based, the front-wheel drive Cougar is offered with a choice of 2.0-liter DOHC Zetec or 2.5-liter V6 DOHC Duratec engines. The 170 hp, V6-powered coupe is expected to constitute 60 per cent of total Canadian Cougar sales and is far smoother than the base four. A 5-speed manual is standard for both engines, while the V6 can also be had with a 4-speed automatic.
