For 2002, the Wrangler has once more been carried over with minor overall changes, the most notable of these being the edition of the new X model. The X model joins the SE, Sport, and Sahara models to round out the Wrangler line-up. It is equipped with many of the affordable features of the base SE model, yet it receives the same 4.0L 190-hp six-cylinder engine that powers the more upscale Sport and Sahara models. All Wrangler models feature Jeeps Command-Trac part-time 4WD system, all-terrain tires, roll-bar, and the traditional removable soft-top roof. A hard-top roof with full-metal doors remains an available option. Other options include air conditioning, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and upgraded wheel/tire packages.
