For 1999, the Explorer 4WD is offered in five trim levels: 2-door Sport, XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. New fog lamps, reverse sensing system, new front bumper, bodyside molding and revised paint colors are new for 1999. A skid plate package is now optional. The rear load leveling suspension is an available option on some models. The 1999 Eddie Bauer is equipped with illuminated running boards, Mach audio System and leather sport bucket seats with power passenger seat. The Limited features16-inch wheels, wheel lip moldings, adds wood trim for luxurious appearance and heated seats. The Homelink with travelnote is standard on Eddie Bauer and Limited.
