Special interface cables are available for connecting to the WAN interfaces on an Intel router. These cables contain a special ID which informs the router of the interface type required and is used to configure the WAN interface. Interface cables are available to configure the router as a DTE device. This is the normal mode of operation for a router, and is used, for example, when connecting to a modem or similar DCE device. This is a V.24 DTE interface cable for Intel's Express Router 8100.
