The KP-65XBR10W is one of a pair of widescreen (16: 9) HDTV-ready televisions in Sony's 2000 lineup. Its 65-inch (measured diagonally) rectangular screen is ideally suited to widescreen DVD or HDTV material, but you can watch 4: 3 programs with gray bars to the left and right or zoomed/stretched to fill the wide screen. Connect an external set-top box via the single HDTV (high-definition TV) input to watch 1080i high-def programs. This input can be set to component (Y, Pb, Pr) or RGBHV format to accommodate a larger range of set-top boxes. Or, you might use it with a progressive-scan (480p) DVD player. Additional video extras include a digital comb filter, to help eliminate artifacts, and Scan Velocity Modulation. The latter is said to increase sharpness, but you can defeat it by choosing the Movie mode, one of five presets in the TV's repertoire.
