Philips FW-P88 CD Shelf System Recommendations

Philips' FW-P88 is a home theater mini-system that can decode Dolby Pro-Logic surround sound and includes five speakers (two front/left, one center and two rear-surrounds). It's highlighted by the company's proprietary wOOx speaker technology. Each main speaker packs a 6.5-inch top-firing woofer. Philips says this passive radiator can produce low frequencies at high volumes, which indicates that this mini should deliver more bass than most of its competitors. If that's not enough low-end response for you, you can always hook up an optional subwoofer. All three front speakers are magnetically shielded, so they won't distort your TV picture. The FW-P88 has a 3-disc CD changer with 40-track programming, a dual-well cassette deck with auto reverse, and a digital AM/FM tuner with 40 station presets. An onboard amplifier delivers a robust 320 watts of total power. Each of the main speakers gets 120 watts, the center gets 40 watts and the rears get 20 watts each.
