This model is similar to a convection type unit in that it can bake and brown foods as well as microwave them. The difference is that the browning and baking is done using speedcook technology, which utilizes the power of light instead of an element and convection fan. The benefit of speedcooking is baked and browned foods cooked very fast, up to 4 times faster than in a standard oven. The jury is still out on the microwave component of this type of hybrid unit. Some experienced microwave cooks feel that a standard microwave oven is still needed in the kitchen. They have found results of foods microwaved in this type of unit to be below their expectations. However, many consumers have reported the microwaved results to be fine. Most owners of this oven claim the results for meats to be terrific, but some were not overly pleased with baking.
