My bike is registered just 1 month ago and although it runs fine it ticks over at about 1100 RPM. It often stalls when down shifting when approaching traffic lights etc. Any ideas on what the problem it is? Regards, Colin P

I have a 2006 Kingpin with stage one. Victory down loads newinfo to onboard engine control modual, for remapping. I am not a big fan. What you need is an independant fuel proccesor, so you can fine tune all the pots. This will really put a smile on your face. Bike starts fine on choke then ticks over when choke off. within 2-3 mins the revs decrease to the point of stalling. have adjusted tick over to around 900 revs but as soon as engine warm the problem re...

If your bike has ever sat for more than a few months at any time, the carburetors could be plugged with gasoline residue. If so, they will need to be disassembled and cleaned.
Otherwise, make sure all of the normal tune up items have been performed; valves adjusted, air filter, spark plugs, etc. And make sure there are no air leaks between the carburetors and the engine.
Finally, if the above things are all good, then I would perform a compression check. With the throttle held wide open, you should see at least 140psi of compression, on every cylinder. Anything lower than that will cause an erratic idle quality and overall poor performance.

My vstar 1100 dies when in idle. acceleration is fine. driving, shifting, everything else is fine. when the bike is coming down to idle, it dies

Is the idle speed set too low? If so, adjust it, using the idle speed adjusting screw, to the correct idle speed (900 RPM). If that's not the problem, then check for air leaks between the carburetors and the engine by spraying WD-40 around the intake manifolds with the engine running. If there is an intake leak, the engine RPM will change briefly when the WD-40 is sprayed near it.
Aside from that, there are two other things that can cause your engine to die when it should be idling: the idle speed mixture adjustment, or low cylinder compression. Of course, if it was idling fine before, and the idle mixture adjustment hasn't been changed, then do a compression check, first. To idle properly, each cylinder's compression needs to be at least 140 psi.

Stalling

does it have a fuel pump? It could be going bad.. if not, it could be a bad battery...but since it looks like a 2008 its doubtful and could be just loose or dirty connections in the battery circuit.

Nois from engine

I was just about to post the same thing about my bike and saw this one. I just started having the same exact noise/problem with my bike. THe ticking increases with the higher rpms (and becomes louder, so much so that it is annoyingly loud on highway) I have a ninj 250, 2000 miles on it. I push it kinda hard and do the normal newby crappy job of shifting and stuff. Hope I didn't flub it up.
