How do I remove impeller from motor? Is there bolt or does it screw off? It appears head of bolt is sheared off.

The impellar spins off counterclockwise on most pumps. The hard parts are holding the motor shaft from rotating and finding a way to grip the impellar.

Pentair 011523 pump shaft seal is leaking. How do you remove the impeller and motor?

Separate the plumbing portion of the pump from the seal plate which is attached to the motor. The bolts will be a 9/16 inch hex head, that are visible facing the motor. Remove those bolts. That will then allow you to pull the motor and the seal plate away from the plumbing portion of the pump. Remove the diffuser which is covering the impeller, and then the impeller will need to be unthreaded off of the motors shaft. The motors shaft, will need to be locked. You can do this by removing the Cap on the backside of the motor and you can use whatever tool required to keep the shaft from spinning. Once you are able to lock the shaft, you can read the impeller... Note* some styles will have a screw in the middle of the impeller securing it to the motors shaft? This screw is Backwards thread, not normal thread. If your pump has this screw, need to remove it first, then you will be able to unthread the impeller off of the motors shaft.
once the impeller is removed, you can then remove the two halves of the shaft seal. Very carefully reinsert the new shaft seal into the proper places, just the way they were prior to you removing them.

Reassemble in backwards order as you disassembled everything.

Swisher 27" snowblower front impellers turn free

Hi Craig,

Most snowblowers incorporate "shear pins" between the motor and auger. A shear pin looks similar to a nut and bolt or pin that couples the drive to the auger - but it designed to break or shear off to prevent damage to the auger or motor in the event of a jam or overload. They look like these:

Only the shear pin recommended for your particular brand and model snowblower should be used. Under no circumstances should a regular bolt or other steel pin be used instead of a shear pin. Check your manual or consult with Swisher to determine the correct shear pin for your snow blower.

How do I replace a sheared of impeller on a Haward power-flow pump 1hp

a pair of pliers meaning 2 one to hold the shaft and the other to remove the impeller piece , but you will need to take out the threw bolts and take off the seal plate from the motor. these are fragile pumps.. best of luck

How do you take off the motor from the pump assembly

Turn the circuit breaker off to the pump. Undo the band that holds the motor and flex plate to the pump. Unscrew the 5 screws on the diffuser ( front of pump ) That will expose the impeller. Remove the rear cover of the motor, (2 -1/4" screw heads) Pull off the rear cover. The impeller might have a screw in the center of it. If it does, the screw is left handed thread. Turn the screw clockwise to remove. Use a 7/16" open end wrench to hold the shaft at the rear of the motor. Put the wrench behind the plate with the two springs on the shaft. You might have to turn the shaft a little to get the wrench on. Remove to screw and remove the impeller, (counter clockwise). Unscrew the 4 motor flange bolts and pull the flex plate from the motor.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1994-95 Accord NOTE: Do not attempt to remove the ignition switch assembly if you do not have replacement bolts available. These special bolts have break-away heads which shear off when tightened. This is an "anti-theft'' measure used to prevent easy removal of the bolts. Fig. 2: Shear bolts must be used for reinstallation 86806113.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the SRS system.
  2. Remove the dashboard lower cover/knee bolster.
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4. Unplug the ignition switch connector.
  5. Remove the two nuts and two bolts securing the steering column, carefully lower the column assembly.
  6. Use a center punch to mark each of the two shear bolt heads securing the ignition switch assembly to the steering column. Use a 3?16 in. (5mm) drill bit to drill off the heads. Take care not to damage the switch when drilling.
  7. Remove the bolts. Remove the clamp and remove the ignition switch assembly.
  8. Remove the three screws securing the switch and remove the switch. To install:
  9. Make certain the recess of the switch aligns with the tab of the lock housing. Insert the switch and install the retaining screws.
  10. Position the switch assembly on the steering column. Install the new shear bolts; tighten them finger-tight.
  11. Use a wrench or socket of the correct size. Tighten the shear bolts until the heads break off.
  12. Raise the column and install the nuts/bolts. Tighten the nuts to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. 22 Nm).
  13. Connect the ignition switch wiring harness.
  14. Install the column covers.
  15. Install the dashboard lower cover/knee bolster.

Ignition switch is broke

Here are procedures for removing the ignitionlock assy. If equipped with SRS, extra care must be taken while removing ang installing to avoid damage to the SRS cable reel.

IGNITION SWITCH & LOCK CYLINDER
Removal
1. Remove steering wheel and combination switch (if necessary). Disconnect ignition switch harness connectors. If shear bolt studs are accessible, use a hacksaw to cut slots into exposed studs.

2. Remove studs using a screwdriver. If shear bolt studs are recessed or hard to reach with hacksaw, use a center punch on studs. Using a drill bit and screw extractor, remove studs. Place key in ACC position and remove ignition switch and lock cylinder.

Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW shear bolts. Tighten shear bolts finger tight. Ensure proper operation of ignition switch and lock cylinder. Tighten shear bolts until heads break off. Install combination switch, upper and lower steering column covers and steering wheel (if removed). Tighten steering wheel nut and Torx screws to specification.

How do you remove the empellor from the motor shaft? The seal is leaking. I have the 4 screws loose holding the pump casing. Does is slip off the motor shaft or is it threaded on?

First off, are you sure it's the shaft seal leaking and not the Valute (the large o-ring or seal that is in between to two halves of the pump) seal? To clarify, if you get your head down and look at the bottom of the pump while it's running you should be able to see the water coming from the joint between the seal plate, and the seal plate housing, or just behind that from the bottom of the motor probably from the vent holes in the motor housing.

Now to answer your question, assuming it is the shaft seal leaking.... You may have already done some of these steps, if so, sorry - just ignore, but it may help others. To get to the impeller, you need to split the pump into two (the wet end from the dry end) This is done by either removing a large clamp, or removing 4 to 6 bolts depending on the pump. (I'm not talking about the 4 bolts that hold the motor to the seal plate, those come later see below) Once you do this the Motor, seal plate, impeller and diffuser will all pull back away from the front of the pump. At this point it's best to disconnect the electric and remove the whole assembly so you can work on a table or bench. Before removing the impeller you need to remove the diffuser which is screwed over the impeller onto the seal plate with 3-6 small screws. To remove the impeller you need to lock the motor and just unscrew impeller. Depending on the motor, you remove a cap in the middle of the tail piece and hold with a wrench, or remove a cap that covers the whole end and grab the shaft with a wrench (usually 7/16") by sliding it under one of the components (not sure exact part off top of my head have to look at it) and then turning impeller. If the impeller has a bolt or screw in the middle remove that first. It should be reverse thread so make sure you don't turn the wrong way and break or strip. If there is no screw, or after you've removed it, just spin the impeller off (it should be counter clockwise standard thread). If you can't do it by hand and assuming you don't have an impeller wrench, be very careful and use a large pliers, pipe wrench, or strap wrench to loosen it. After that you unbolt the motor from the seal plate, pull the seal plate away from motor (this removes half the seal), and then pop the other half of the seal from the seal plate. One thing to note and/or clarify... in your description you said you have the "4" screws loose... As I mentioned above, most pumps have either a large clamp or 6 bolts holding the two halves of the pump together. In your case I believe it's bolts. Some have 4, but most have 6. Then there also 4 bolts that hold the motor to the seal plate. Just want to clarify that you split the pump in two and remove the diffuser, and impeller, before removing the motor from the seal plate. I haven't worked on a Waterway in awhile, but there are basically the same as many other pumps. You may have 4 bolts, just wanted to clarify from the motor mounting bolts. How to install the motot?

Turn off the electric first. Now split the pump in two by removing the large clamp or 4-6 bolts holding the two halves together. Depending on the motor, you remove a cap in the middle of the tailpiece and hold with a wrench, or remove a cap that covers the whole end and grab the shaft with a wrench (usually 7/16") by sliding it under one of the components (not sure exact part off top of my head have to look at it) and then turning impeller. If there is no screw, or after you've removed it, just spin the impeller off (it should be counter clockwise standard thread). After that you unbolt the motor from the seal plate, pull the seal plate away from motor (this removes half the seal), and then pop the other half of the seal from the seal plate. Make sure to replace the shaft seal, and use a tiny bit of pool lube on the rubber parts when installing, but keep the white and black ceramic surfaces 100% free of any dirt, grease, etc while working with them. Installation is pretty much just the reverse. Install half the seal into the seal plate. Install the seal plate onto motor and bolt into place. Install other half of seal onto shaft. Screw impeller onto shaft and install screw (if one was there to start with) in center of impeller (reverse thread). install diffuser over impeller make sure it is centered and doesn't rub the impeller hub. Install new diffuser and valute o-rings. Hookup wiring before re-attaching to rest of pump. Clamp or bolt back together. Pour plenty of water into pot to prime and flip the motor on for a sec or two. Pour some more water. Install pot lid. You should be good to go. Keep in mind there are many different pumps and some variations to the above instructions, but the above should cover most situations. if something doesn't sound right let me know by commenting on this post, or sending email and I'd be glad to clarify. How to seperate pump from motor

Disconnect all power. Remove the six bolts holding the seal plate to the wet end. Remove the two small allen screws to remove the diffuser. Remove the dust cap from the end of the motor and secure the shaft from moving. If installed, remove the Phillips head screw in the center of the impeller by turning clockwise (left hand threads). You can now remove the impeller by turning counter clockwise, note that you may need an impeller wrench to remove it and a specific tool to hold the shaft while you remove the impeller. Once the impeller is off you can remove the four bolts that hold the motor to the seal plate. This process just needs to be reversed to re-install but you will need a new shaft seal (PS-1000).

Disassemble pentair challenger pool pump

remove the 3 screws on the front with 1/4 inch nut driver remove the diffuser and mounting plate remove cap covering the bolt head on the back of the motor hold the motor shaft with an ajustable wrench or vicegrips turn the impeller counter clockwise it should only be hand tight unscrew the impeller
