Toc Error Hey guys! i just purchased a refurbished KDC X990 and it is installed, everything works except the cd drive is screwed up...I have tried everything from unplugging power and resetting to inserting new cd;s and still get the crummy Toc Error message. There is a 30 day warranty...wondering if you all have any suggestions before i send the hunk of junk back...fustrated in south carolina. I wish these kenwood people would examine and test these drives before they ship them to some poor ol guy clear across the country. Is there anything i can do?

Toc error

TOC is short for "table of contents". It tells the memory what is on the disc and where...... Does this do this on all cd's?? If so, the disc drive motor is probably at fault. If it's one or two discs, it's probably a scratched or smudge near the center of the disc. CD's play from the inside out.....they start with the TOC.

TOC ERROR ON DENON DN-C615

Take this info with a grain of salt. I recently received one of these units with a TOC error, and after removing the drive assembly and reinstalling it, the problem went away. Before removal, I observed the motor spinning poorly and even backwards. Rather than pull the whole drive assembly, I would first eject the drive and remove the face from the tray. This is done by putting your thumbs on the tray and pulling up with your pointer fingers underneath the face. It should just snap off and snap back on the same way. Try playing a disc now, if it works try loosening the screws on the drive assembly and shifting the assembly towards the front of the unit, tighten the screws and put the face back on. You should be good to go. There are four screws holding the assembly down, the two in the back can only be accessed when the tray is in the open position. The front two are accessible through holes in the tray, and I don't recall if the tray has to be open or not, but that's easily observable. If it's still not working, there is a flat-flex cable running to the laser assembly. Pull and reseat this gently. Try to only manipulate the cable by the blue reinforcement tab. I hope this helps!

Kenwood KDC-MP528 CD TOC ERR

Every one of those Kenwoods that I have fixed with that error needed the laser pick up replaced. so there is no easy fix for it.

If you have tried several disc's and they all have a TOC err, and you know the disc's are in decent condition, then you will need the pick up replaced.

First try cleaning the disc you are using. I use windex and a soft cloth like a bath towel, it works great at getting fingerprints and other stuff off the disc without scratching the disc. A bad fingerprint or a bad scratch right at the innermost part of the disc (where the TOC is located) will cause any CD player to not read the TOC, producing a TOC ERROR. you never know, you might get lucky.

Toc error

i have had the same deck for four years and installed and removed from 4 different vehicles. the deck has been through some stuff lets put it that way. mine does the same thing as yours, i have found that you just keep ejecting the disk untill it reads. usually only takes a couple times and then mine works just fine.

Toc code keeps comeing up on my kenwood kdc x5589

Hi, toc error means that the laser is struggling to read the Table of Contents which tells the unit where all the information is on the disc, it may be something as simple as the lens needs cleaning or something as complicated as the laser needs replacing, but you could try running a cd disc cleaner through it first. Good luck......

What does toc err mean?

TOC is table of contents. Typically if its on a recorded cd try burning a cd from antoher computer and try it, if it works its most likely that your burner or software or ccd's your using are bad. Also is it a MP3 disc your trying to play? If so then you MUST burn it as a MP3 cd. You cant just burn MP3's to a CD and it read them. If this is the case thats why you are getting the TOC error because its not writing to the CD whats on the CD on the TOC area of the disc.
