  • There are a total of three plugs. Two of them are under the engine and the other one is under the crank case. The fill hole is on the bottom left front of the motor between the frame rail coming out of the bottom left side. Remove the oil fill plug out out of the front left bottom side of the inside of the frame rail. It's a tight fit so you will need a open ended wrench.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Sorry about that. Seems some of my message did not post. Let me try again.

Some you add through the dip stick. There is a hex nut under sort of under the crank case behind the rear cylinder. Fill your crankcase about 2/3 of capacity there. You will need to use a funnel with a hose for this. Fill the rest through the dip stick hole.

You have to remove all 3 plugs I mentioned to get all that old oil out. You may need and inspection mirror to find the two plugs on the bottom.

Two of the drain bolts are under the engine and one is under the crankcase.

The reason you fill some through one hole and the rest through the dip stick is because of the engine design.

Each plug empties a different part of the engine. Make sure to drain all three areas completely.

I neeed to know how much oil to fill in the gearbox after I have changed a leaking oil ring.

If the fill hole is on the top, fill it all the way, if the fill hole is on the side, then fill up to the hole

Where to fill transfer case

HI. On the strat the fill plug is just behind the rear exhaust pipe about one inch or so to the rear. You need to loosen the front exhaust header nuts (don\'t remove 17 ft. lbs. ) remove the rear header nuts (these are allen style 14 ft. lbs.) pull the rear header out of the exhaust port. Use a torque wrench or they will leak. Now you have enough room to install the allen wrench into the fill plug. This plug is about 1 1/2 in diameter. It is a big pain to do. Don\'t loose the exhaust gaskets or just buy new. They are about $12 each. I have reused them just a couple times then install new.

This may sound dumb but i just changed the gear oil in my transfer case and everyone said it holds 0.4 qts and I put in one quart and still not to the threads. am I using the wrong filler hole??

Is the bike sitting level? There is an inspection hole, and a filler hole behind the exhaust. Which are you using? Should be filled to the bottom of the inspection hole, about 1/2 quart.

What are the maintenance intervals for a Stratoliner?

Your next service will be at 8000 miles. It would be recomended to service your engine by changing the oil and filter every 4000 miles.
