I have a 2006 Kawai 1600 Nomad that I just had the steering bearing and front fork springs replaced for a thumping noise everytime I hit a slight bump in the road. This thump became a thud and felt like the springs were bottoming out but I know this could not be at 10KM per hour. The problem was not repaired. Please help.
I am not sure but I assume the shop should have changed the oil when they changed the spring in the shocks. I specifically asked for this but I am not sure at all if they did.I am not sure but I assume the shop should have changed the oil when they changed the spring in the shocks. OK officially you are supposed to measure oil height. Oil quantity is not quite right because you cannot measure the amount of oil remaining in the passages or on the walls. its only a little but to be correct set it at 110mm from the top, compressed, no spring.
if you don't have the tool and don't wanna try to do it properly, 300cc per fork.
sounds like wheel bearings-1st but hopefully your front disc need turning, or replaced. check wheel bearings by jacking up the front end "CAREFULLY" WITH JACK STANDS & wiggle tires,if you get more than a 1/4'' slack on 1 or the other, than it's shot. Best to replace both sides. "GOOD LUCK'' & BE CAREFULL.
A wobble that appears when slowing down is many times just low tire pressure. Check the front tire pressure should be 32-35 pds. Another thing that can cause a wobble is worn or loosely adjusted fork frame neck bearings(steering stem bearings). Disassemble around the handlebars down to the frame neck till you get the upper triple clamp off or can reach the adjuster nut , just underneath on top of the frame neck enough to tighten the steering stem bearings. You will need a shock adjusting tool (curved end with a single tooth) Comes standard in all Honda tool kits). Next, put a jack under the motor to lift the front wheel . Carefully wiggle the front wheel to see if you have a bad wheel bearing. If you do not have fork oil in your forks, you could possibly damage the chrome tubes. No oil would mean the forks would not go up and down smoothly. Do not add oil to your forks. Do not over fill your forks with oil. If you are not sure how much oil is in them, drain them and refill them with the correct amount. If you over fill the forks and drive the bike you will destroy the fork tubes.
You probally have a bad front wheel bearing , when the noise changes when you move the wheel is typical of a bad bearing.this should be covered under your powertrain warr.
two reasons are that you have either slightly bent your front wheel /or front forks or both even the slightest damage to either of these can throw the handling and steering the best thing to do is visit your local bike dealer and have the aliignment checked /before you do that though raise the front wheel off the ground and check for play in wheel bearings hold the suspension with one hand so the steering doesnt turn then with other hand pull and push wheel from side to side if it rocks it will be the bearings
