Cannot start the engine....Battery meters out fine @12V. Had previous problems but would jumper the solinoid and start engine, then problems would disappear and mower would start normally. Now I hear the click of the fuel pump and I get a clicking sound from the solenoid....and I get no mvmt when the leads are jumpered. Rider 155 articulating w/Kohler 17hp engine....Help!

I would suggest starting with the battery. Put it on a battery charger over night and take it to your local parts store the following day. I have had meters read 13.8 volts on a battery only to find out that it was done.

SOURCE: trouble code ch6 oil on hour meter

SERVICE REMINDER/HOUR METER
Service reminder shows the total number of hours the engine
has run and flashes to indicate that the engine or mower needs
servicing. When service is required, the service reminder will
flash for two hours. To service engine and mower, see the
Maintenance section of this manual.
NOTE: Service reminder runs when the ignition key is in any
position but “STOP”. For accurate reading, be sure key remains
in the “STOP” position when engine is not running.

SOURCE: Husqvarna riding mower w/20 hp

Hi.

There is gas smell in the carburetor because the engine is not starting and carburetor is flooding.

As first thing ensure that there is spark, pull the spark plug wire and put the end near to engine block while cranking. You will see the spark. If there is no spark, check distribution coil and wires.

If there is spark, check if there is fuel pressure, if there is smell from carb, then the fuel pressure should be Ok.
Once you are sure that the pump is doing its job, and that there is pressure, check the carburetor settings. The mixture is probably too rich or too lean, and for that reason it is not igniting.
If it is not a matter of carburetor settings, then the carb must be taken apart to check carburetor filter.

SOURCE: pulled the Husky out to get ready to go. Put new

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

This statement: "Noticed when the engine did start, it seemed to race up to much higher RPM than usual before it shut down." is telling you that the fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb lost power so it shut off the fuel.

Look on the main wiring harness of the mower about even with the foot pedals but inside the cowling. Your looking for a 20 amp fuse (Flat type with the U piece between the terminals.) For some reason that fuse has failed. There has to be a shourt some where that caused the fuse to fail. Locate the short.... start in the pedal switch area and then the seat switch area looking for shorts. After that you just have to check everything including the lights (if so equipped) for shorts. Who knows even the wiring for the fuel solenoid or the fuel solenoid itself could be shorted.
The fuse may have a black plastic rectanular cover on it but will not be far from the main harness.

If you need any assistance or have any comments feel free to respond here.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Briggs and stratton 14.5hp turns over with spark but wont start, fuel problem...

The wires on the base of the carb go to a fuel shut off solinoid, or is known as an anti fire solinoid, it shuts the fuel supply off the the main jet when the engine is switched off, there should be constant battary level at the solinoid
whilst the ignition is on, you can remove the solinoid and check its function, simply connect a 12v supply to the removed solinoid, and the centre plunger should spring down into the solinoid body.

Try this instead, find the connection where the ignition switch plugs into the wiring harness, just fallow the wires, disconnect the plug, hook up a 12v battery to the bike, find the solinoid and use a heavy gauge jumper wire to jump from the side the pos+ battery cable connects to over to the side the starter connects to. The bike should start fine, DO NOT forget to unhook the jumper wire after its started or it will ruin the starter.jumper wire jumper wwire

First pour some gas down the intake(just a small sipp)and crank it,if it starts you have a fuel distribution problem. If it dont, there is an ignition problem.

First, charge the battery.(Always do the easier things first). If that isnt the problem, take a DC volt meter and check the voltage where the battery connects to the solenoid. Then check the voltage on the starter side, while you turn the key,If there is a large voltage drop, or no voltage, replace the solenoid. If voltage okay, then check the starter. Good luck...Lee
