My 1998 honda shadow vlx delux stalls after choke is pushed in, after warm up. i just purchase it . its been sitting for some time. please help.

If a carburetor, the float may need setting as it may be starving for fuel .

You are correct about carb dissembling & cleaning bare min drop bowels & carb clean the jets idle & main any adj screws remove & spray out passages. count the turns so to replace screws to same place.. biker bandit may have some dias...

this time of the yr. spring time a lot of bikes sit all winter and fuel in the carb will age becoming like a vanish that will clog the low speed jet or jets so most likely you need you carb cleaned.

There are a few things it could be, but your bike is definitely starving for gas. I could be clogged gas somewhere or a bad fuel pump.

I had a similar problem with my '88 Shadow 600 VLX. It sat for a few months and when I tried it again it would fire right up and run for a while if the choke was on and gradually get weaker and stall if left alone. If I turned the choke off or gave it throttle at all it would bog down hardcore and die almost immediately. I was about to tear apart the carbs but I decided to test the fuel pump first. I bypassed the pump and set it up for gravity feed and it ran with no problem after that. I wanted to get a replacement pump but for our bikes they're about $120!

I guess it could be something as dumb as a fuse, but if those and the wiring check out ok, definitely try bypassing the pump to see if it's the same problem.
