Take the gas tank loose and turn the gas to off on the pit ****. Then under the gas tank theres a hose, trace that hose. Should go to the fuel filter under the seat. Pull it off the fuel filter and run it to a bucket. Turn the gas back to the reserve position. This will Allow you to drain allthe fuel out of the tank. Then put fresh high octane fuel in it and see if that helps. Might take several miles to burn allThe old fuel out of sysem. Maybe the whole tank of fresh gas untill it cures it completely.
I am having the same problem with my wife's 97 VLX. I drained the tank, put in fresh fuel and changed the fuel filter. No change....idles with choke out...slowly dies with choke in and quickly dies when the throttle is opened....as if it is starved for fuel. I did not know that the 600 vlx has an electric fuel pump...this will be my next troubleshoot. If it is at fault I will add it to the solution!
