Your battery is losing voltage too quick. It has probably developed a 'memory'. Dyson claims that their handheld has the best suction out of all the handhelds out there. In order to maintain that claim the circuit board will shut off power to the motor when the voltage drops below adequate charge for full suction.
We need someone who can teach us to bypass that part of the circuit so it won't cut power to the motor or you need to get a new battery.
Shorting the battery like an Aircraft battery then re-charging won't fix it.

My Dyson DC44 makes a small 'electrical' noise when I push the button, but does not start the motor. I have bought and installed and fully charged a new battery, so that is not the issue... any suggestions...

You will have to send it back to Dyson for service. There are parts available, but nothing related to the motor. My guess is the start capacitor on the motor. You can try giving the motor area a flat handed slap. It sometimes helps seat the carbon brushes.

Can I leave the battery charger plugged in my Dyson dc 44 animal after it is fully charged?

Hi, I have a Dyson DC56 with a lithium battery for about 18 months and I leave it plugged into it's charger when not in use. I do notice the Dyson charger seems to switch off automatically when charged. I don't have any problems so far. It you have a Genuine Dyson Lithium battery and the genuine Dyson charger it should not be a problem. That is because Lithium batteries have very precise requirements for their charging cycles and therefore the correctly designed charger required to make them work safely is a somewhat intelligent design and needs to be of good quality in having to meet those requirements. So use the original Dyson Charger. Also most high current Lithium Batteries will also have a protection circuit built in further increasing safety and reliability. Just don't use cheap cloned Chinese made Lithium chargers, because you will never know if they have been designed or even will operate correctly.
Now if you have old technology Ni Cad (Nickel Cadmium), LA (Lead acid) or NiMH batteries with basic cheap chargers they should not really be left connected to a charger full time.

How do I know when the battery is charged on a Dyson dx5

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch.

You will find a green light on the charger which will go out when the battery is fully charged.

I have attached a video which might help you with some of the different aspects of your DC44.

I just bought a dyson 35... And put the machine on charge. Now that I want to use it, it is not working. It is either the charger or the vacuum itself. Very disappointed.

Hi Zara, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC35 should charge from depleted within 3.5 hours. When your machine is taking in power, you'll see a green light on the charger assembly. When the machine is fully charged, the green light will shut off. Disconnect the machine from the charger cord before testing it, as your DC35 will never run when the charger cord is attached to the machine.

We're keen to help you check that both the charger assembly and the battery are working as they should be. If not, a replacement part should be covered under your 2-year Dyson parts and labour guarantee. We'd just need to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks when you have your machine to hand to pinpoint the cause of the issue.

You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you, and helping you resolve this issue.

Is it okay to store my Dyson handheld, DC 16, in the wall charger when not in use? I had heard that the battery life may be affected. Thanks for the helpful answer to my prior question. Phil Glasser

Hi Phil, My charger went bang and doesn't work anymore so my answer is after you have charged your battery remove it and switch your charger of and never charge a full battery. Has to be said also I would never buy another dyson product again, total rubbish.

I just bought a Dyson DC35 cordless vacuum cleaner, and the charger does not light up, nor does it seem to be charging the vacuum cleaner

Hi Jeff, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC35 should charge completely within 3.5 hours, and when fully charged the light on the charger will go out. If the battery doesn't seem to be taking in any power, we'd appreciate the opportunity to take you through some quick diagnostic checks when you have your machine to hand. If a replacement part is needed, our experts will also be happy to confirm if this is covered under your machine's 2-year warranty.
