SOURCE: under hard pulling in 2nd gear feels like it slips

there is an internal clutch adjustment on that bike that may not be properly set. call your local bike mechanic and they can tell you how it can be set properly.

  • Try moving the shift lever up a notch or two. This will help eliminate any accidental lifting of the shift lever by the shoe. No cost to try this one.
  • Your bike has a shift drum index wheel that holds gear positions. The spring may be weak on the index wheel arm. This is the low cost attempt a solution to the problem.

  • The other potential problem is a slightly bent shift fork. It may only be barely engaging into first gear. This is the more expensive of the three potential solutions.

SOURCE: Hi,my 1997 V-Max has got either a clutch or gear

The coggs between the gears are worn, no simple fix. you just cant get on it very hard. And if you do it will strip out 2nd gear. In order to remove and replace the worn out gear you have to remove the engine from the bike, take off the upper half and split the case. and if youre going to go through all this trouble you might as well rebuild the whole engine. So I had a Vmax that 2nd and 3rd gear went out on me, (my heavy right hand and all) I could still ride it. the gas mpg was bad reving 1st till about 20 mph then skipping to 4th. But hey I put over 40k with it acting this way before I sold her and purchased anouther... Enjoy your beast and she will take good care of you

SOURCE: 2nd gear is slipping/wont stay

Sounds like it may be. A "dog" is what allows the gears to slide into eachother. You may also have a damaged shift cam. The engine needs to be split to do these repairs.

2006 Ford Explorer shifts hard between 2nd & 3rd gears, both up & down, but shifts normal between 1st & 2nd, and in & out of overdrive. All was normal then almost not working the next

It sounds as though your valve body may have a lot of particulates that have entered into it causing the valves to act sluggishly. Unfortunately, this is a condition that can only be taken care of by your mechanic and is not something that the average person can fix themselves.

My 2001 yzf 600 is stuck in neutral. whats wrong?

This bike and many of the 600 class lose 2nd gear and slip out on hard acceleration, then at easy acceleration as it wears more and eventually the kicking out of gear can bend a shift fork, the parts are not extremely expensive but the labor is going to be high because of a complete removal and teardown.

2nd gear slips going in and out of 2nd

If 2nd gear slips a lot, the clutch for that gear is probably worn out. A rebuild of the transmission is recommended.

'99 wrangler has trouble shifting to 2nd gear - 4th gear occasionally slips to neutral

If you can see where the shifter goes through the floorboard, make sure the shifter is not hitting the floor.
There could be interfierence under the car also.

Hard shift and blinking overdrive

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.
