When i try to start my 03' sportster, it keeps

There is a vacuum line under the gas tank on the left side, check to make sure it hasn't rotted out. If it has you can replace just the vacuum line and not whole piece.

Chances are it is the overflow hose from the gas tank. If the tank is overfilled, it lets excess fuel run to the ground. Nothing to worry about.

you need to take the valve out of the tank and clean it.

Check battery voltage while cranking. Shouldn't drop below like 9.0

Very easy to remove and disassemble the carb. Just keep track of every thing you did and where it went. It would be best to get the manual if you can.

Hello! 5W30 shouldn't make much of a difference ...If the ticking sound is coming from the lifters I would change the oil and filter again...The cost isn't that much...It sounds as if the vehicle isn't driven much and may be gunked up...Add a bottle of Seafoam to the gas tank when you fill up (great product) and it will clean out the gunk...Guru...saailer

Your premium probably had ether or alcohol in it, which acted as a solvent for all the old gas gunk in the tank and lines, and gummed up the carb. You'll likely have to finish flushing the tank and lines, and rebuild the carb to clear the gunk.

It sounds like either the tank or on of the bolts that fasten it penetrated the harness and caused a short. It is also possible that a short was made over time from vibration and when you did the work, it positioned itself for the short to 'make'.

yeah sound like your fuel injectors are clogged...I would first change and the fuel filters and go to wal mart and buy "sea foam" fuel injector cleaner its in a white and red metal can this stuff is awesome!...and add it too a full tank of gas run the vehicle till the gas tank is empty..if this doesn't fix it you will need to flush out the entire fuel system and flush out the fuel tank

Is the gas on? The petcock is the little thing that hangs under the tank that turns the gas on and off, level is off, vert is on, and one other level is reserve. I had trouble with my Harley, if it didn't have a full tank, it wouldn't start, But once it was running it would vibrate the gas through the system, but gravity wouldn't do it with little or no fuel. Your tank could be rusting up a little, the filter will tell you, keep one on there so it doesn't get into the carbs. 1971 Sportster,, XLCH. Hope this helps.
