Just remove the right side cover to expose the kick start mechanism. Remove the bolt on the end of the shaft, tow washers and guide then the spring. It has been awhile since I worked on the KX 250, but as I recall, the clutch does not need to be removed in the process of replacing the spring. I could be wrong on that. Below is the kick mechanism on your bike. Please rate my answer. Thanks. how do i change kickstarter - tombones49_146.gif

Koubalink I am short as well, could ride fine, but as the bike is tough to kickstart, I needed the height to get a full range on the kickstart. Bought a Koubalink, fitted it in about 30 mins and worked out perfectly. Cheers

Hi, Anonymous you may need to replace your kickstart lever spring, for this scenario you will need your service manual, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Honda, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

Replacing Kawasaki kx 80 kick start return spring

Hi, easy job, if your bike is waer cooled, you dont say how old it is the old bikes were air cooled, undo all the water pipes attached to the r/h case all the water will escape, you can leave the oil inside the gearbox, if you lay the bike on its left hand side, lift the engine and block it up to make sure gear lever is not resting on the ground, as this will disengage when you remove the clutch cover on the r/hand side, undo all the fixing screws from the cover remove kickstart lever, tap the cover gently to loosen the cover and remove when loose, if the case will not come off check further for screws, sometimes hide inside water pumps etc, once you are ready to remove the cover, keep the kickstart shaft pushed inermost so that it stays located within the engine, once ready fully observe the location of spring mountins within the engine and replace the spring

Need to change kick start spring

Hi, i am sorry but you dont say what the model of your machine is, this would help me determing the correct, answers for your questions, most kickstart springs can be changed by simply removing the clutch cover followed by the kickstarter shaft and then replacing the spring, make a note of kickstart stop location carefully remove the shaft holding the gears together replace the spring followed by the. Replacing the shaft and tensioning the spring before cover replacment, oil, etc. Some machines the shaft and spring is inside the centre cases and a complete engine strip is ness

Hi my kickstart not engaging engine on my yzf 250 05 is this a job i can fix myself if so how

You should be able with some mechanical knowledge. all the kick mechanisims are under the clutch cover
You will need to drain coolant and lay bike on left side, remove kickstarter, and rightside cover,
There is a odd shaped spring that causes the ratchet to engage, If this is the problem it is a simply fix. There can be other causes but this is the most likely and should be visibly obvious.

992 kx 250 wont crash start just locks up and kickstarter doesnt work it free spins to a point then gets to a hard point 1992 kx 250

Don't know this bike but I've only owned kick start HD'd.They work the same. The free easy crank on the kicker is the cylinder geting to the point of compression. The hard point is when you're there.Use your power and kick it!.Repeat if it don't start get to the hard point and kick it!..Make sure your gas valve is open and key on.Don't give it too much gas.If it don't start it's either Gas or Spark.Good Luck.

2000 yz125 kickstart spring is broken

Not sure of anything aftermarket. You drain the oil, remove the right side and there is the spring. You will need a new gasket, it really isn't very difficult.

It has been years since I have had a bike with a kick start, but I don't ever remember any play. Are you sure its not just easy to move untill you get to the compression stroke?
