Question about 2000 Yamaha V-Max

1 Answer

Recently there is a lot of scratchy noise coming from an engine of my 2003 V-max when I rev it above 3000 rpm. It goes away when the clutch is pulled. Everything is functioning just fine, except that noise is becoming more loud each time I ride and gets me worried. Is it a big deal? Transmission or clutch problem? Please help.

If noise goes away when clutch is pulled then it is a loose clutch basket, you need to replace clutch basket and clutch,They make complete replacment kits. Its not a big deal but I would stop riding it till you replace worn parts.Running it the way it is will result in a blown clutch and could do more damage. If you have some mechanical ability you can change this yourself.Good Luck Brian.....

NOT clutch issue - if it was the clutch the rpms would rev out but bike would go no faster.
Sounds like carburetor may be partially plugged up, main jet.
Or air filter needs replacing.

Won't go into gear

is this an auto or stick shifted car, ??? we can not guess this, ever.
you said, Gear, that is stick shift and A/T has no gears.
it has, R, D, 1,2,.. selections... are all 4 dead.?
shudders?
starts,
is RPM 800 or more?
you then shift to say reverse...
and step on the throttle , RPM is 800 and it advances to 1500 or more
and car moves,
does RPM go above 3000 and not move
that means , the tranny (or TCM or sensors) are bad.
if your RPM goes to 2000 and is stuck there, and car will not
move in any shifted rage, 1,2,D,L, then the brakes are iced over.
the key to this mystery is RPM. the engine RPM will tell you
what is happening,
for sure.
post it. and we can tell you.

slipping is when the tranny allows RPM to be unlimited at right foot actions.
if the brakes are frozen the RPM will be at the TC clutch stall speed
that is , about 2000rpm max and will shake there. (5sec max doing that)
see the FSM on stall speed, of your A/T
if this is a clutch car, say so, M/T stick car, say so, that be DIFFERENT/

check that there is an engine max rpm limiter in the ECM . If there is run fault codes and look far a faulty Rev counter sensor

Grinding/whirring noise from A/C above 3000 rpm

your air compressor pump is going. My car is actually currently doing the same exact thing. It will eventually lock up. BUT if you're lucky, you may just be low on R-13a (coolant)

Boat does not plane

you could try a lower pitched prop.2" would up the revs by 400 revs.,which would up the revs ,but give you more low down thrust,and/or tucking the motor under more[if you have electric trim/tilt].thats a big boat and fair bit of weight for a 40hp..my 40hp merc is on a 13ft saracen, and with two of us it takes a while to get gooing.so i bought a ProPulse prop, with adjustable pitch.been god to try different pitches

While driving i loose the engine thrust in 3000 - 4000 RPM rev up to 5000+ RPM for normal speed of 40-50km.could this be clutch or acceleration problem ??

If you are riding and the revs go up but not the speed then this will be your clutch. If this is the case you can get back to me and i can tell you how to fix it.

Loss of power above 3000 rpm

You have a fuel delivery problem. Open the gas cap on the bike & try. This will prove if a vacuum is happening inside the tank (plugged vent). Check fuel filter. Check fuel pump. Check fuel pressure regulator.
