How to adjust the clutches on a 2002 honda cbr 600, other than on the clutch handle. goes in gear but not taking off

Where the noise is coming from?

Head of engine?
Centre of engine?

Do you feel that your bike is riding heavy that is you are forwarding the gears but the load of engine is not lightning.

Please reply me then i will tell you the solution.

Did you do an oil change recently? Sometimes a motor cycles clutch shares the oil with the engine and a different kind of oil then the bike requires will cause the clutch to slip. This happens alot especially if someone switches to some types of synthetic oil when the bike had regular oil before the oil change.

You need to adjust the clutch cable adjustment for the clutch handle, THEN adjust the clutch itself.

1.First go to the clutch cable. Halfway down the cable is a rubber boot. Pull the rubber boot up the cable, (Or down. Pull it. Do NOT push), until it clears the adjustment. (The adjustment is a hex shaped piece, that is made of two parts. It's called a Barrel)
Use a 9/16 inch open end wrench, and a 1/2 inch open end wrench. Loosen the lock nut until you have around 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch clearance, of slack in the handle.

2.Now open the derby cover.

You will then see a single threaded stud, (Adjuster screw), in the middle of the clutch pressure plate.
This adjuster screw has a nut on it, to lock the screw from turning. (Jam nut)
Hold the stud end,(adjuster screw). from turning with a large flat tip screwdriver,
(May have changed to a small square end, that you use an open end wrench on), loosen the jam nut with an open end wrench.

Turn the adjuster screw in, until there is 1/8th inch slack of the clutch lever, to the clutch lever mount.
(The clutch lever mount is the part that attaches to the handlebars. The clutch lever is the part you squeeze in with your hand. The slack is the small space in-between the clutch lever, where it touches the clutch lever mount)

Now turn the adjuster screw out 1/2 turn. Tighten the jam nut. (Make sure you hold the adjuster screw in that place you set, as you tighten the jam nut. DON'T let the adjuster screw turn as you tighten the jam nut!)

3.Now tighten the lock nut, (Jam nut), on the adjustment barrel for the clutch cable. You should grease the threads of this adjustment barrel to prevent corrosion in the future. Pull the rubber boot back into place.

4.Replace the derby cover gasket as these will leak like a sieve. Replacing this gasket is cheap insurance. Install the derby cover, tighten the derby cover screws evenly. (Go to one screw, tighten until it touches. Then go to another screw, and do the same. After all three are touching, snug them down one turn at a time, going from screw to screw)

This is a thin cover. If you don't tighten the screws evenly, you can cause this thin cover to warp, and be the cause of a constant annoying oil drip.

as far as i know there was never a 5 speed hurricane, my 87 is identical to your picture, mine has 6 speeds, mine also does more than 135, but mines got a k&n, Vance and hines pipes, and stage 3 jet kit, but never heard of one with 5 gears,

Bike jumps and stalls when put into gear


Sounds like your clutch is partially engaged.
You may be able to adjust the screw near the lever to tighten the cable (take out the slack) and allow the clutch to disengage when you pull the lever.
If that does't work, the clutch plates may be dry or seized?

My 91 cbr 600 f2 runs good but when i pull clutch in and drop to first it kills the motor why??


Does the motorcycle to to go forward when you drop it to first gear with the clutch pulled in ?
If not then it could be the kill switch for the clutch is not working properly. If you left the bike in first gear and you try to start the bike
without the clutch pulled in the bike not start until the clutch is pulled in.

I have a 1999 Honda CBR 600 f4 and recently it won't start while in gear. Before, I could start it while I gear with the clutch lever pulled. Now it only starts while in neutral. Any ideas?


the neutral light, side stand switch and clutch switch are all wired together.
If the neutral light works.then check the side stand cut out works as normal, finally check the micro switch under the clutch lever, it should make a tiny click when the clutch is activated, also check it with a multi meter, follow the wires back to the plug and check the resistance goes from 0 to 1 with the clutch pulled

I was wandering if I need to replace my clutch.


Have you tried adjusting your clutch cable? If the clutch was bad you would rev the engine in gear but the bike would not speed up as it should because the clutch was slipping. But if your cable is out of adjustment pulling the lever may not be disengaging the clutch. You should find the adjustment at the clutch lever, should be a larger locknut and a smaller adjusting screw. You want about 1/2" of freeplay in the lever before it starts disengaging the clutch.

Did it stall with a big **** like you didn't pull in the lever or did it just die? If it died, maybe the sidestand switch is faulting, killing the engine because it thinks your kickstand is still down.
