Do a leak down test to confirm leaky intake valves is where I would start fist is highly likely that one or two of the intake valves is not sealing well - if test out good then it is back to investigating the carbi pilot circuit and replacing pilot jet.
I contrary to many still would always start with leak down test first - I find it very frustrating to spend hours for no results. at least once tested you can spend your time fixing instead of time just eliminating one possibility good luck regards Jamie

My Yamaha 250 zeal has a problem starting. it turns over fine but often wont continue running while cold, it doesn't like choke and stalls if the throttle is eased open. until it has warmed up.

Cleanesd the carb reinstalled will only run on choke can't find any adjustment

if it will only run on choke then the pilot(idle) jet is clogged, may need to remove again and take the small jet out and clean.

A fterI warm up my 01 rm 250 my bike don't start

Possibly the choke is getting stuck internally, Even thoug the leaver may be in the closed (normal) position, it may be sticking internally. Try removing the choke and cleaning the passage with some carb cleaner, then replace the lever. The bike could run with a partially cloged choke but would be tough to start when warm due to too much fuel. Another thing to check, when it is hard to start, just after kicking it over a few times, remove the spark plug and see if it is wet with gas. My guess is that's it's soaked. Good luck.

Not idling

The choke allows more fuel into the engine, I would say that you have dirt or bad gas stuck somewhere in your carb, so give it a good and thorough cleaning, including the pump. Also make sure your air filter is clean!

New top end but no compression or very little

Sounds like you have the crank to cam timing incorrect.  Also you may have the valves set too tight.  Dose it pop and sputter?
